Sylvia Thomas is a poet, musician, and artist from Indianapolis, Indiana. For the last ten years, Sylvia has been sharing her poetry and music for the stage through her lens as a Queer, Transgender, and Intersex Hoosier (someone from Indiana, USA). She’s performed her work across the Midwest, the East Coast, Scandinavia, World Pride, EuroGames, the United Nations, the United States Capitol, Berlin, Mexico City, and the Danish Parliament.

She has four self-published works of poetry titled, DIVINE (2018), Twirl: A Collection of Poetry by a Queer and Transgender Hoosier (2021), VIGIL (2023), and ALL MATERIALS ARE MIRRORS (2025).

Currently, Sylvia is a Long-term artist in resident in Big Car Collaborative’s housing program located in Indianapolis. She is also a ‘24-’25 Creative Renewal Fellow through the Indy Arts Council. After a bountiful year of performance, she’s working on her first sponsored recording project, collaging practice, and writing everyday.

Outside of her art practice, she has spent the last seven years as an awarded Public Health professional at Step-Up Inc. She developed initiatives to educate providers on the health disparities of the Transgender community. She launched the organization’s Harm Reduction program and the third Safe Syringe Exchange site in all of Marion County.

She is a Libra (Sun), Leo (Rising), and a Sagittarius (Moon). Her biggest inspirations for her creative practices are Ocean Vuong, Audre Lorde, Danez Smith, Brit Marling, Ariana Reines. John Brooks, Jenny Holzer, Stephan Tashjihan, Felix González-Torres, Caroline Polachek, T-Pain, Imogen Heap, Frank Ocean, Hatis Noit, and all the Birds she encounters.
